This project was shortlisted from 250 entrants and exhibited at RIBA London following a competition devised by Turner Prize winning artist Jeremy Deller. The brief was for a prototype bat house sited at the London Wetland Centre in Barnes. Our proposal used on-site materials to build a corbelled mountain with a variety of chambers to accommodate different species. The inherent visitor attraction challenge of nocturnal exhibits was overcome by the invention of an LED bullrush triggered by the bat’s low-level flight over the extensive areas of wetland.
